A hidden world beneath the landscape
Beneath the village of Kanne lies an extensive network of tunnels that was carved out by hand over the course of centuries. The limestone was used as a building material, leaving behind a unique underground landscape filled with old work faces, stories, and traces of craftsmanship.
A passionate guide will take you on a journey through this world. Along the way, you’ll discover how the marl was formed, how the stone cutters worked here, and why the caves are so much more than just a series of dark passages.
Mosasaurs, a chapel, and flavors from the cave
The guided tour combines geology, history, and a sense of the local area. You’ll learn about fossils and the mosasaur, ancient mining methods, and a beautifully recreated underground chapel.
The constant climate inside the caves still plays a role today. There, you can explore the beer aging cellars and—except in July—the active underground mushroom farm. For groups, there are additional packages featuring local products, wine, or a workshop on working with marl.
